Mr. Lala routinely represents clients in issues involving federal, state and local taxation with a primary focus in tax controversies. He has successfully defended clients against the Internal Revenue Service, Louisiana Department of Revenue and local governments at the audit and administrative appeals levels and before the U.S. Tax Court, the State Board of Tax Appeals and multiple district courts and appellate courts.
Mr. Lala also advises clients in the areas of general business, mergers and acquisitions and commercial transactions. He has represented clients in numerous business acquisitions and dispositions and various debt and equity financing transactions.
Mr. Lala has been a frequent speaker on tax and business issues to various professional organizations, including tax executives, certified public accountants, attorneys and financial advisors.
Before entering the practice of law, Mr. Lala worked in the tax consulting services divisions of Arthur Andersen, LLP and Ernst & Young, LLP, where he left as a senior manager.
Mr. Lala received a Bachelor of Science degree (cum laude) in Accounting from Southeastern Louisiana University and earned his Juris Doctorate from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law. While attending law school, he was elected to Moot Court and obtained his Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
